Fees

When it comes to fees, David is extremely flexible.

First session is free

David offers his first session for free. He does this because he knows that finding a psychotherapist that’s right for you is difficult. He also knows that nearly everyone who sees him once wants to comes back.

And after that…

Sessions after the first are income-based. You can claim them on Medicare if you have a Mental Health Plan from your GP. David takes an income-based approach to future private sessions, so please ask him about this.

A qualified mental health nurse

David is a Credentialed Mental Health Nurse working under the Medicare Mental Health Nurse Incentive Programme.

Medicare Provider Number

David’s Medicare Provider Number is 4309011L.

FAQs

What’s the difference between a psychologist, psychiatrist, counsellor and psychotherapist?

This is a complex question, but put simply:

Psychotherapists

Psychotherapists are practitioners from various backgrounds who can work with their clients for a number of sessions, which may continue for months or even years, to help the client positively re-organise negative experiences of themselves or others. Psychotherapists try to heal the “self” when the client is not functioning as well as they would like.

David is a psychotherapist.

Psychologists

Psychologists are degree-qualified practitioners who study human behaviour and apply various treatments such as cognitive behavioural and Gestalt, humanistic and client-centred and psychodynamic approaches.

Psychiatrists

Psychiatrists are degree-qualified medical doctors who have taken extra training in physiologically-caused mental disorders, and can prescribe medication such as anti-depressants.

Counsellors

Counsellors have very varied training, from a Masters in Counselling to a few weeks by correspondence. At present in Australia anyone can call themselves a counsellor or a psychotherapist.
